Deshaun Thomas Captures Second Consecutive Tiffany Gooden Award

Bishop Luers High School's junior basketball phenom, Deshaun Thomas, was named the 2009 Tiffany Gooden Award winner. The Tiffany Gooden Award is presented annually to the top male or female basketball player in the Summit Athletic Conference as selected by The Journal Gazette sports editors and writers. Gooden was the first recipient of this award in 1994 when The Journal Gazette created it in her honor after she was named Parade Magazine and Naismith National Player of the Year and Indiana Miss Basketball in that same year.
Thomas, for the second consecutive year, earned this prestigous award after leading his team to the IHSAA Boys Basketball Class 2A State Championship. Thomas averaged 30.3 points and 15.1 rebounds per game during the 2008-09 season. He also earned first team All-State and fourth team Parade All-American honors. Thomas has scored 2,254 career points.
